Public Education at Meddybemps, Maine

The Archaeology Research Center (UMF ARC) was established at the University of Maine at Farmington in 1984, and is dedicated to the preservation, recovery, and exploration of cultural resources. Conducting research in New England, the UMF ARC is a multi-disciplinary program focusing on educational and scientific advancement.

Over 250 professional archaeologists, technicians, scientists, interns and UMF students have contributed to the production of 225 documents including cultural resource management reports and articles for scientific journals and popular magazines. In addition, the staff at UMF ARC has contributed many hours of public service through lectures, classroom teaching, archaeological field schools, and other related forums.

Our aim through the Public Education and Outreach program is to make archaeology accessible and meaningful to the general public. This is accomplished through a variety of means including a volunteer program , numerous public talks, and these web pages.
